About Hector
Who can you help, and how? As an animator with over 10 years of experience in the film industry I have a very good sense of what supervisors look for in an animator´s reel. I could help you improve your reel with precise feedback from your shots and also telling you what type of shots you would need extra and which ones you might not need in your reel. Can you tell us about yourself and your background? I am from Spain, and since I was a kid I always loved drawing characters and comics, so I always knew I wanted to work on something related to that. So when I watched Toy Story for the first time (I was eleven) right away I knew that was what I wanted to do. I studied classic arts (School of Art 10) and digital arts (Trazos School of Arts), in my hometown, Madrid. I got my first job on an animated film at the age of twenty, and ever since I have worked on the film industry, either on animation or VFX. How did you get to where you are now? Basically the truth behind this is hard work, give every day your hundred percent, and no matter what, keep trying things till you get them right. That´s the way I got to Blue Sky Studios, where I currently work or Framestore before that. And I would say this is only possible if you truly love what you do, which is my case. What projects have you worked on? Peanuts Rio 2 Epic Ice Age: Continental Drift (preproduction) Rio Where the Wild Things Are The Tale of Despereaux Planet 51 (preproduction) Spirit of the Forest Donkey Xote The Hairy Tooth Fairy Gisaku Where do you draw inspiration from? Any type of art form is great for inspiration. I love classic painting, illustration (Leyendecker, Rockwell and Heinrich Kley are some of my favourites), sculpture (huge fan of Rembrandt Bugatti´s work), etc. And I have also always looked back to the classic animators, the know as ¨The Nine Old Men¨. I thinks this guys understood animation to a level no one else has ever done. For some reason I particularly like Frank Thomas work. Love his acting choices and the entertainment value in his scenes. Tell us something odd about yourself? I love skateboarding.
